Atong Atem is an Ethiopian born, South Sudanese artist and writer living in Narrm/ Melbourne. Atem works primarily with photography and video to explore migrant narratives, postcolonial practices in the African diaspora and the historical relevance of photo mediums. Atem’s work interrogates concepts of home and identity through a critical and sentimental lens and through the conceptual potential of framing and fantasy in image making. Atem has exhibited her work across Australia including at MUMA Monash, Gertrude Contemporary, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and at Sydney Contemporary art fair as well as Internationally at Red Hook Labs, Vogue Fashion Fair in Milan and Unseen Amsterdam art fair. Atem was the recipient of the inaugural National Gallery of Victoria and MECCA M-Power scholarship grant in 2018 as well as the Brisbane Powerhouse Melt Portrait Prize in 2017.

Product Info

Our Art Scarves are digitally printed in Sydney, Australia with (Think Positive Prints) using eco-friendly water miscible inks onto a 100% silk crepe de chine fabrication. Each scarf is hemmed in-house at The Social Studio. Scarves measure approximately 63cm square.

Pick-up is available at The Social Studio, 128 Smith St Collingwood, VIC 3066.

Returns

Unfortunately we cannot accept returns, so please choose carefully before deciding which scarf you would like to buy.

Framing

Don't wear scarves? Pop it on your wall instead. We recommend using an experienced framer (like Ernest Studios). to make the most of your special piece.

Care Instructions

Please take special care of your silk scarf or it will easily pull and fray. Dry clean or gently hand wash in cold water with mild detergent (pH neutral). Gently squeeze to remove excess water and hang to dry. Do not wring or spin on a high speed as it can damage the silk. Iron while still slightly damp on low temperature. Do not machine wash. Do not tumble dry. Do not soak. Do not spin. Do not bleach.
